Institute for Protein Research (IPR), established in 1958, has collaborated extensively with researchers globally and was recognized as a Joint Usage/Research Center by MEXT in 2010. It provides advanced facilities for protein and life sciences, including a synchrotron radiation beamline, high-magnetic field NMR machines, and cryo-electron microscopes. IPR also manages the Protein Data Bank Japan (PDBj) as part of the Worldwide Protein Data Bank. Recently, IPR has begun new initiatives, including research on MicroED, a technique for analyzing nano crystals in powder samples using electron microscopes. IPR is committed to contributing to the future of life sciences.
